It has been brought to my attention that due to financial issues the school is obligated to eliminate programs, some of them being sports, music, and journalism. Although these programs are all equally important and all have their benefits there is one that without we simply would not be able to express and communicate ourselves among others. This being our amazing journalism program should not be included in the elimination of programs.

Since a young age we have been exposed to the wonders of journalism such as books, newspapers, comics, etc. Journalism gives us information on the everyday happening of the world and children, teens, and adults the knowledge, imagination and creativity that each one withholds. As Jordan Shields said “Journalism encompasses art, economics, math, music, drama, civics, and history.” (source #3). In these financial times every decision is crucial like eliminating the wrong program. The question that the school must ask itself is what will help and expand the knowledge of students. According to Abigail Yim “Journalism is such a vital class because it teaches you things that are important in any field.” (source #3). Journalism will always be used anywhere you go on in life and is why it must be the saved program.

As Kelly Dent notes “In this way, music programs, especially those focused on making music, play an essential role in the development of social skills and emotional awareness in students.” (Source #1). Although, it is hard to argue with this position, music is definitely important. What must be taken into consideration is what will help students speak for what they stand for and what is right from wrong. Journalism teaches students to become well educated and strong minded
