The Creature The novel, “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley is a book that displays horror and scary like settings that ultimately gave life to modern day movie and story writers. The author does an incredible job of giving off vibes that describe events to an extent where the reader is in a bloodcurdling and eerie mood throughout the entirety of the novel. During the climax of the novel Mary creates many instances where an event or something tragic happens and makes the reader begin to second guess themselves on what they thought was actually going to happen. The creatures first interaction with a person face to face was William Frankenstein. The creature had no intention of hurting William, he quickly revealed to the creature that he was related to Victor, “Child, what is the meaning of this? I do not intend to hurt you; listen to me.”(Shelley 144) The creature had built anger and bottled up all of this inside him because of how he was being treated ever since he entered the world. Full of rage at his creator’s indifference, he grabbed William by the throat and he was immediately dead, “I grasped his throat to silence him, and in a moment he lay dead at my feet.”(Shelley 144) The creature didn’t realize his own strength until it was too late. He continued traveling at night when he came upon a cottage of people. He found shelter in a nearby hovel where he found warmth and comfort. The Delacy family in this cottage played a key role in the creature’s learning ability and integrity. The kids in the family were told to put together a fire. When the creature was given life he was automatically hated by society. They either ran and screamed, or they tried to hurt him. Time after time the creature never gave up on society. He gave second chances to everyone, and he even saved a young girl’s life which resulted in him getting shot. The creature just wanted to be a part of the world and not be hated by all mankind. The events that happen in the novel all effect and ultimately build the creature’s character. All of these major events that took a turn for the worse could have been stopped if Victor would have treated him like a normal human being and been accepted into society from the very beginning. Some of these events shaped the creature’s character for the worse, but some events shaped his character for the good of himself.
