In the novel The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, Josh chooses basketball over his father. In the page 199, it shows that Josh doesn't care about his dad's health because he's arguing that he shouldn't be at the hospital. "I shouldn't be here. I should be putting on my uniform, stretching, getting ready to play in the county semifinals. But instead, I'm sitting in a smelly room in St. Luke's Hospital"(199-200).
