What is a witch’s favorite subject at school? Spelling! The Salem Witch Trials affected how people lived in the past and it caused innocent people to be hanged. The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller in 1952, about the Salem Witch Trials. The play includes John Proctor and Reverend Parris. In the play The Crucible, John Proctor and Reverend Parris are foil characters. John Proctor and Reverend Parris have a few similarities. John Proctor and Reverend Parris are Puritans who live in Salem. John Proctor and Reverend Parris are both fathers. John Proctor has three sons. Reverend Parris has one daughter. John Proctor was very respected in Salem. Reverend Parris was not well respected in Salem. Very few people liked Reverend Parris because he preached about money. John cares about his family more than his own life. Reverend Parris cares about his job and money more than his own family. John gave up his life to make sure his family would have a good life and be able to keep their land. Reverend Parris cared more about his job than when his daughter was sick. John does not go to church often. Reverend Parris always goes to church. John Proctor skipped church due to his wife being sick. John Proctor knows what is right or wrong. Reverend Parris does not know what is right or wrong. John thought it was wrong to lie just to save his own life. There are an abundance of differences between John Proctor and Reverend Parris. John Proctor and Reverend Parris are foil characters in the play. A foil is a character who provides a direct contrast to another character. It was really surprising for John Proctor to be accused of witchcraft because he was very respected in Salem. John gave up his life to make his family have a good life.
