“More weight” were the last words of Giles Corey from The Crucible. Giles was arrested for contempt of court when trying to save his wife, Martha Corey, from being hung due to being accused of witchcraft. He would not give up the name of who told him that Thomas Putnam was having his daughter accuse people in order to acquire land and died to keep it unknown. Giles Corey and I have some similar traits such as being stubborn like a bull, sarcastic with people and determined to succeed. Giles Corey and I both stick to our guns to the very end. Giles would not admit yes or no to witchcraft after being accused to contempt of court. Throughout the play, Giles constantly makes witty remarks of pure sarcasm, such as “more weight”. Of course he does not truly desire a larger amount of pressure to be forced upon him through this comment. While talking to my family and friends, I too make such remarks, jokingly, within a conversation. These usually being based off a question that has been asked where the answer would be found using common sense. None of these comments however, should be taken full heartedly after being said from Giles nor myself. A final trait that Giles Corey and I portray is our never ending determination within our lives. In the third act of The Crucible, it becomes clear that Giles will not give up on saving his wife, Martha, from hanging. He would not give up on telling the truth about the Salem witch trials and how they were just a fraud. I also have this on going goal for everything in my life. When I do something, I give it my all in order to be able to succeed. I never give up on anything easily and, like Giles Corey, try my hardest to have success might it be in band, school, or karate. Now it is evident that Giles Corey and I have the traits of being as stubborn as a bull, sarcastic with people and determined to succeed. Giles Corey was a man that, with these traits, gave up his life to fight for the truth. Don’t we all wish that we could live up to this
