To conclude, “The Crucible,” McCarthyism, and the Patriot Act all have similarities. While all three take place in various timeframes under different circumstances, the effects remains the same. There is a clear trend of powerful officials infringing on the rights of people during times of severe conflict or stress. In the “The Crucible” the conflict was witchcraft. During the McCarthy era it was communism. And now, it is terrorism.
