The Cuban Revolution has enormous importance for the Cuban history. It was led by Fidel Castro’s 26th of July Movement. The Revolution was an armed rebellion against the US- backed authoritarian government of the Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. It began in July 1953 and continued periodically until the rebels finally exiled Batista on 1 January 1959, replacing his government with a revolutionary socialist state. The Movement organization later reformed along communist lines, becoming the Communist Party in October 1965. The Cuban Revolution had powerful national and international effects.
