The article “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” reviewed by Pippa Moss describes the previous knowledge Mark Haddon, the author of the initial story, has of autism. Moss states in the article that the writer has extraordinary insight into the minds of the autistic and speaks from a variety of experiences. Not only this, but the book also proves interesting and believable for those who read the story including autistics. The purpose proposed in the article is to inform people that Haddon knows autism and based his story off of this knowledge, which even intrigues autistic people. Overall, the main protagonist, Christopher, is a believable character in all eyes.

Moss states “Those who have little experience with autists will learn a lot. I would highly recommend this to all professionals and parents who have an interest in this area” (Moss 1-2). I think this book is quite beneficial to understand autistics and I myself have also learned a lot. For example, Christopher does not always understand facial expressions. I feel that most people do not completely understand that autistics cannot comprehend facial expressions which leads to not being able to understand the conversations. Christopher stated in a conversation with Siobhan, “And now if I don’t know what someone is saying, I ask them what they mean or I walk away” (Haddon 3). Autistics have a different way of comprehending information. Also, by reading this book you learn how to handle autistic people properly. When Mrs. Shears finds Christopher holding her dead dog, Christopher panics. Christopher tells he is thinking “I put my hands over my ears and closed my eyes and rolled forward till I was hunched up with my forehead pressed onto the grass” (Haddon 4).
