Utilitarians have developed their own belief on what is in the prime interest for society morally. There main focus is on results and consequences instead of looking at the instincts or emotions of what a person wants to really do. In the movie, The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan expressed Utilitarian aspects in this movie. In the movie The Dark Knight who is played by Christian Bale wanted to convey to society to do the right thing and not commit crimes. He wanted to enforce positive behavior, but never wanted to reveal himself. He was a mystery to society, no one knew his real identity, which made people curious into who is behind batman. Batman ultimately chooses Dent because in his eyes would help more people in life over Rachel. If he chooses Rachel it is only for his own good because he loves her. After saving dent rachel dies and batman choice is for the greater good. ‘As rachel dies batman seems to question his choice and is shown how unhappy he is that rachel died. If you look at in general if Batman did choose rachel people would have still been helped so doe it really matter. either choice he made would have benefited people so there is really no way knowing what choice a person makes will be the best choice for that situation. Was it right for batman if he did choose rachel and made himself happy. The flaw is that there is no real way of telling. Jeremy Bentham has overlooked this side of the problem. A flaw that I see with utilitarianism is how an action can make a person happy. Is it worth it if an individual is going to be sad and unhappy the rest of his life.
