What is the definition of loyalty? Does a picture of a king, queen or a loyal companion come to mind. The dictionary says loyalty is: “the quality of being loyal to someone or something.” Even when Odysseus was lost, he still kept his mind on his home and wife. Also, when she doubted him being back, he kept calm and knew she would see him as her husband. When someone said that the only reason he wanted to see his home is to see his son, he told them about how much he loved his wife. Finally, when he was stuck with Calypso he still didn’t give consent. Odysseus is loyal to Penelope based on how many tasks he has gone through not giving up and always having Penelope on his brain.

Also in the last chapter he doesn’t force her into recognizing him he lets her take her time. This can be found on page 6, line 242-245. He kept calm when his wife starts to actually wonder if it is him and not some phony who is pretending to be Odysseus that way he can get the crown so he can be king. Though he does stay with calypso he did leave.

Even though Odysseus stays with Calypso he did leave to get home to Penelope. He leaves and goes to Penelope and doesn’t even think to stay with Penelope. He doesn’t just go because he wants to be king because if he did, he would have revealed himself to the suitors. He also doesn’t go, to just be home because he wouldn’t have tried to fight for Penelope. He is loyal because if he wasn’t he wouldn’t have done the things he did to get Penelope. in conclusion Odysseus is loyal.
