Ever wonder what really happened to Amelia Earhart? After she disappeared from her flight around the world, in 1937, she was considered to be the world’s best-known female pilot. If it was not for the inconvenience, Earhart would have been the first woman in history to circumnavigate the globe. No one truly knows how or where she ended up after she disappeared, but there are several different ideas of what could have possibly happened to her after the incident. Out of all the theories about Earhart’s disappearance, the theory that is believed to be most likely true is that she crashed on the island of Nikumaroro and had never been rescued or found.
This theory can be supported in addition to Earhart’s final approach on the plane before she disappeared. “The last message Itasca received came in at 0844: ‘KHAQQ CALLING ITASCA WE ARE ON LINE OF POSITION ONE FIVE SEVEN DASH THREE THREE SEVEN. WILL REPEAT THIS MESSAGE ON SIX TWO ONE NOUGHT KILOCYCLES. WAIT. LISTENING ON SIX TWO ONE NOUGHT KILOCYCLES. WE ARE RUNNING NORTH AND SOUTH’” (Goldstein and Dillon 234-235). All the artifacts and items that TIGHAR found on the island are definitely some of the most helpful clues about Earhart’s disappearance. It will always remain a mystery of what more Earhart would have accomplished, thanks to her final approach on the plane that lead her to her disappearance. There could still be hope for researchers and people who wish to know more about Amelia Earhart. Will TIGHAR or anybody ever find the truth of how Earhart really ended up?
