Whether you are listening to it or producing it, music serves as an emotional outlet for many people. Just as I listen to music to get me through bad times, and to intensify the good times, Schubert likely turned to music as an artistic way to express what he was dealing with in his life. At the young age of 25, he was diagnosed with syphilis, and spent the remaining years of his life living out a death sentence.
While Schubert contracted the disease at the young age of 26, the slow illness of the disease allowed him to spend the next 6 years of his life composing music, before his death at the age of 31.
