(T) The Dogs Could Teach me by Gary Paulsen showed the best description out of the other two stories The Flowers by Alice Walker and The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty. (I) The author of The Dogs Could Teach me showed great description through word choice. An example in the text of the word choice the author uses is is when it says, “Blood was welling out of the tear, soaking the cloth and the ice underneath the wound.” From the author's word choice one can understand that the wound isn’t just bleeding instead it is filling up and spilling out like a pool overflowing. While in the story The Flowers, there was some good description through word choice but the author could have added more to help visualize better. (Q#2) One part in which description was shown through actions is when it states, “ On the scramble down the bank Obeah had taken them through a thick stand of cockleburs.” This describes Obeah sort of like a leader of the dog team. This is due to the fact that he took the other dogs through the cockleburs to help the main character. Another example in which description is shown through action is when it says,” She was licking not with excitement that prey blood would cause but with gentle licking she would use when cleaning a pup, a wound lick.” This piece of text shows that through this dog's actions of licking the wound like she would clean a pup she is like a mother figure because she is taking care of the main character. Whilst in The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty Not much description at all was shown through The Sniper’s actions, at one part it does say,” He paused for a moment, considering whether he should risk a smoke.
