Love is always hard to define but one of its main characteristics for sure is acceptance. Love is about accepting someone for who they are, not how many times we say ‘’I love you’’. In The Doll’s house and The Vow characters depict different aspects of their relationship but only The Vow illustrates true love. Torvald in the in The Doll’s house constantly controls Nora and plays with her life like a doll. However, Leo on the other hand, gives Paige the freedom to express her true self. So at the, Nora decides to leave Helmer but Paige decides to stay. Hence True love is about allowing the person to be them self and hoping that they choose you at the end.

If people are encouraged enough to be themselves, then no one will ever be surprised by the unexpressed parts of a person’s characteristics. Consequently, Leo is never shocked by Paige’s personality because he has let her express her true self from the beginning of their relationship and loves her just the way she is. Leo believes in Paige’s talent in art and constantly supports and motivates her to follow her dreams and be herself. Furthermore he trusts her strength to recover and that she will find him on her own once she figures out who she is and how much he loves her. Such when Paige says’’ I hope that one day I can love you the way you love me.’’ And Leo responds ’’You figured it out once. You'll do it again’’. Lastly, he never controls her life and allows her to make decisions based on her own perspectives and ideas. Only this way she can be quite satisfied with her choices because they would be reflections of herself. Hence at the end of the movie, Paige chooses to stay with Leo because he loves her with all her flaws and never prevents her from expressing herself.

Even though it might be risky to let someone be themselves in a relationship because they might not choose to stay, it still is worth it. The whole purpose of love is having a sense of security. If one is not let to be who they want, then others will always have this fear of being surprised by that person’s unrevealed personality traits. Also, it prevents
