Sagan makes a statement in his book about the dumbing down of America. He says that this can be noted in the television shows that we watch today trying to point out that the shows Americans watch and allow their children to watch has no substance to them. Another one of his points was the public school system and this fixed decline on test scores has set back these children compared to the children in other countries. In regards to his statement on the dumbing down of America and if it still can be applied today, the answer is yes. If Americans were well-educated in science then there wouldn’t have been such a scandal when news broke that the man infected with Ebola was in America, although there has been documented cases before in America. The paranoia was caused by the lack of knowledge in science and allowing the media and officials to manipulate the situation. The manipulation occurred with the first infected Ebola patient, Duncan. When they were handling him the officials in the hospital made it clear that everyone involved was fully trained to handle someone with Ebola, then all of a sudden the nurses did not do the proper protocol when they were treating him. They started to quarantine these nurses and trying to find all these people that came into contact with them. They did all this knowing about the previous cases of Ebola and how they all survived after proper treatment but Duncan is the only Ebola patient to die from the disease. Americans should be more worried about contracting the flu than Ebola because the flu has killed more people in America then …show more content…
I say this because Americans are so quick to give up some freedom just to feel a little bit more secure. With this new found fear embedded in Americans, they are so quick to be prejudice towards any situation. A prime example would be airport security, because after all the terrorist attacks Americans were so scared that they didn’t care what actions were taken as long as they felt safe even though it created a racial prejudice.
I do not agree with his comparison of spirituality and science because he is trying to explain things that are not suppose to have an exact answer. Spirituality is something that happens within an individual not something that you can figure out with experiments and equations. Science is here to propose answers and test it validity through experimentations, while spirituality is having a deep connection to something that is way bigger than science and
