North Korea & The Dystopian Tale of Anthem America is the land of freedom and individualism. Imagine a place with so many rules, restrictions, and repercussions. The story Anthem by Ayn Rand just explains that. Ayn Rand believed in ethical egoism, which is the philosophy which states that morality should be based on one’s self-interest. North Korea is ruled by a single party, juche, and it is a hermit kingdom to most of the world. The dystopian story of Anthem can be compared to the republic state of North Korea by comparing their ideal structures of government, economy, and the people’s way of life. North Korea has been under the rule of the Kim family for many, many years now and their country, to the eyes of Americans, is seen as a place without a spark or light. In the documentary, Inside North Korea, by National Geographic, the main focus is on how to secretly film and watch the behaviors and society of the Koreans. It is not for the purpose of spying but to compare the way Americans and other people live to North Koreans. Throughout the documentary, it is noted how poor the economy is and how they are limited to the resources they have. North Korea is a place where they are limited on resources of food, shelter, and supplies. The basic necessities that people take for granted: Are the same things that take people in North Korea a long time to buy. Something that was very intriguing was the respect the people had for their leader and how much they loved him. It was like they had no reason or no knowledge of how to hate him. Yet some people were able to escape such a place. North Korea is heavily bordered, especially where the border meets South Korea. According to a CNN new article on North Korea, the country is somewhat a communist society. A communist society is a political theory in which property is publicly owned and everyone works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. In the story Anthem, each person over the age of 15 is given a job, which is probably paid in the aspect of what type of job it is. The people of the country do not necessarily know what is in the outside world and are taught that the Kim family are supreme leaders. Throughout the story, it seems like Equality 7-2521 is the only one that knows the difference between what is good and bad. Even though, some people are able to escape from North Korea and not all survive. Something that is different from these two places is that if a person was to escape from North Korea, their families would be punished, however, when Equality 7-2521 escapes and his love finds him, they are not prosecuted and no one person can be identified with them so no other harm can be
