The Face on the Milk Carton written by Caroline B. Cooney is about Janie, a 15 year-old sophomore in high school. While eating lunch at school she notices a face on a milk carton. She instantly thinks the girl in the picture is herself, but the name on the milk carton says Jennie Spring. Janie thinks she is loosing her mind. She didn’t think she was kidnapped until she started finding clues. Janie is facing the challenge if she was kidnapped or not. As Janie is trying to figure out if she was kidnapped or not, she strives to find out the whole truth. In chapter one Janie is sitting at lunch and decides she wants to drink some milk to help wash down her pb&j sandwich. Normally, Janie would not drink milk because she is lactose intolerant. When Janie reaches for her friend’s milk, she notices a picture of a missing girl that looks like herself. She became too overwhelmed with the idea that it might be her she felt constipated. While digging around in the attic at her house she stumbles upon a trunk that has an H on it. In the trunk Janie sees the same dress from the picture that is on the milk carton.
