Overall, this is an excellent noel and I understand why The Fiery Trial received the Pulitzer Prize for History in 2011, among other rewards. Foner made a good compilation of primary sources from the era, such as personal biographies and newspapers, which are vital in establishing who Abraham Lincoln truly was. Although the book is 336 pages in length, it rarely delves into material that is irrelevant or uninteresting to read.
