Religion plays a major role in many people’s life. Religion is a unique part of each and everyone’s culture and traditions. Religion has values that are meant to guide you between right and wrong. In the story “The Five Wounds” Amadeo tries to redeem himself for the things he did in the past to his daughter, wife, and most importantly, himself. Amadeo uses his pain as an incentive, in order for him to reach forgiveness and redemption. Amadeo’s wife drops off Angel ,his daughter, at his place on Holy Tuesday. Amadeo was going to play the role of Jesus in his town morada. Amadeo was never a huge part of Angel’s life, ever since he got into an argument with his wife. He “ tries to remember the last time he was alone with his daughter, but can’t”. He knows he did bad as a father by never being there for Angel when she needed him the most. One of Amadeo’s flaws was never being close to his daughter. In a way he sees Angel as a motivation to get in front of everyone in the morada.By playing the role of Jesus in the morada,it is Amadeo’s way of seeking redemption. He was determined to be the best Jesus, even better than Manuel Garcia. One of Amadeo’s motivations to get on the cross was Angel. Just like Jesus, “ everything Jesus did He did for his children.” …show more content…
Amadeo Padilla sees his choice to use the real nails in the morada as a way for him to reach “ total redemption in one gesture, if only he can do it right.” He does not know if he has it in him to ask for the real nails, while getting up in front of the whole town. When Amadeo arrived with the cross, he told Tio Tive he would do the real nails. Amadeo was in front of the whole town nailed on his palms and feet. Amadeo’s pain in the cross, nailed, is his way of asking for forgiveness for all the bad things he has regretted in his past. He wants to be absorbed from his own pain. One of Amadeo’s sins was never being close to his
