The story follows a miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, as he is visited by four ghosts, each bearing part of a larger message that would be vital to Mr. Scrooge. He is first visited by the ghost of his diseased partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him of the horrors of damnation and urges him to repent in his miserly ways. Before departing, he tells Scrooge that he will be visited by three other spirits to whom Mr. Scrooge is skeptical. The first ghost, The Ghost of Christmas Past, brings Mr. Scrooge back to landmarks of his childhood, including the school where young Scrooge spent the Christmas holiday alone until his sister arrives to bring him home with the consent of their father. The second ghost, The Ghost of Christmas Present, brings Mr. Scrooge to the home of Bob Cratchit, an employee of Mr. Scrooge, where he witnesses the small dinner they share and the condition of their youngest child, Tiny Tim, who is crippled. Mr. Scrooge begs to know if the child will survive but the ghost tells him that if the conditions in the home remain the same, the child’s chair will be empty next
