The giver society controls careers with ease but do they consider what people may want. On page 19 Jonas’s father says” I was fairly certain of what my assignment was to be.” When Jonas’s father says he was fairly certain of what he was to be, however this confused Jonas because he volunteered at many different places and wasn’t drawn to one. The society is seen controlling careers on page 76 when the Chief Elder says” Jonas has been selected to be the receiver of memory.” Although the society holds this as a very high position Jonas still is scared and worried even though, the society is praising him because he expected he would be a nurturer.
