Lois Lowry’s dystopian novel, “The Giver, takes place in a community. In this community, people do not get the choice of choosing and they don't have that much freedom. Jonas becomes the new receiver, but doesn’t like the community and leaves to elsewhere. One lesson the novel suggests is that if you know something is wrong, stop complaining and just change it. From the beginning, Jonas was living up to all the expectations, the same as everyone else. Lowry describes how Jonas feels about his friends playing a game of war and not knowing what it is. His family not knowing what love really means and what dancing is. Jonas asked his parents if they loved him and they said that word had no meaning to it. After he found his friends he notice that they were playing the game that they always play: War. Before Jonas became the receiver of memory, he knew nothing about the game, he didn't even think that the game existed until now. When he saw this he stood in the middle of the battlefield and gets”shot” he doesn't do anything, he just stands there and looks at all of them and started to tell them to stop. Then his friend Asher to Jonas that he ruined the game, then they all left Jonas standing in the middle of the playing field. Some might say that just because something isn’t the way you like doesn’t mean it’s imperfect and it has to change. In The Giver the Chief sent “police” after Jonas and Gabe. Even though they got away she also sent airplanes after them. Some may also say that just because only you see something that isn’t right means that maybe you should try changing instead of changing others and everything around you. But once again if you know something is wrong you should try to fix it to everyones best liking and instead of complaining just figure out whats right and whats wrong and then change
