The land that was obtained from the Louisiana Purchase would have been a wonderful thing for American if the purpose was to help America grow. The main goals of the Louisiana Purchase were to prevent a war with the French and to gain influence for the Republicans . With Thomas Jefferson being the president, he had access to a monstrous amount funds and could buy this land with money that belonged to the country. Jefferson had a responsibility to the people to aid the country. Jefferson strongly believed that the government should only do what was written in the Constitution and if it wasn’t directly stated then the government could not do it.
