A primary theme within the Gospel of Luke is that of a compassionate Jesus, who takes an interest in the women, poor and the weak, and He forgives sins, heals and comforts (Harris, 2014, pp. 201-202). Luke provides many thematic examples in which Jesus portrayed throughout the Gospel of Luke. Luke expresses the significance of the Holy Spirit, through the life of Jesus, and the power contained within the Holy Spirit (Harris, 2014, p. 202). The Spirit contained within Jesus is the same spirit in which believers today may receive for strength, power, healing and numerous other gifts provided by the Spirit.

Within the Gospel of Luke, prayer is emphasised more than in the other Gospels, as Jesus is continually documented as praying throughout the Gospel.
