Compare and Contrast: Novel and Movie with Analysis There are many similarities and differences throughout the novel and movie of The Great Gatsby. Some of these include characters, setting, theme, dialogue and many other parts of the stories. Although, in some cases these similarities and differences seem to have a small meaning, in a whole they differentiate the movie and novel from each other. The similarities between the novel and film are prominent and common throughout both forms of entertainment. Some of these similarities are in the way characters talk, act, dress, and feel, and some are major parts of the story that could not be changed. One similarity between the book and movie is that Nick set up a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy. In both forms of entertainment when Daisy met with Gatsby “the day agreed upon was pouring rain” (Fitzgerald 83) and Gatsby brought an over-the-top amount of flowers ”at two o’clock a greenhouse arrived from Gatsby’s, with innumerable receptacles to contain it” (Fitzgerald 84). These two forms of entertainment have many similarities and differences that contribute to making each successful. These characteristics also help to differentiate the novel and film from each other, while also keeping them closely related. Comparing the book and movie allows you to see the events that are important and needed for the story and the events that are not needed. I liked the movie more because it brings picture to the words, and allows you to see the lavish parties, and luxurious lifestyle of Gatsby. One thing I would change about the book and movie is that Nick never works with Gatsby, I would have liked to see how Gatsby’s business ran, and I think it would of brought a closer relationship between Gatsby and
