Daisy and Tom Buchanan, characters in The Great Gatsby, are careless people. Their actions do not imply that they care about anyone but themselves. They ruin people's lives without feeling any emotion. Daisy and Tom both did things to hurt and betray each other.
In the first chapter, Daisy became lively at the mere mention of Gatsby. “Gatsby? Demanded Daisy. What Gatsby?” She has no fear that Tom would think anything of it. She doesn’t care about Tom’s thoughts or feelings. She doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings but her own.
Tom does not care if he hurts people.“She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner time” Tom has been cheating on Daisy. He is careless enough to have her call him around Daisy and risk him being exposed.
