Have you ever listened to someone and automatically knew they were lying? What about found out someone really close to you was a fat phony? While reading “ The Great Gatsby” by the Francis Scott Fitzgerald I found myself thinking “Mr. Jay Gatsby is nothing but a big fat phony.”, and by chapter six in the book we found out he is. Since the beginning I knew gatsby was a liar. But later on i find it's in the name of love! In this paper I will give my evidence to support my claim.

First and foremost, Jay Gatsby isn't even this man's birth name. Mr. Jay Gatsby (born James Gatz) from North Dakota was the product of two low income farmers. In order for james to have some change in his pockets he got a little job down at the local docks. One day a wealthy copper mogul Dan Cody decides to take his yacht out. Meanwhile gatz on the doc hears a storm is brewing this way, gatz takes a paddle boat out and warners Mr. Cody about the storm.Gratefully Mr. Cody takes in gatz and gives him the name Jay Gatsby! Cody took (now) jay with him on his many adventures to the west indies and Barbary, jay fell in love with the lifestyle of the rich and wealthy. As said on page 103 chapter 6.

Dan was grateful for gatsby, so grateful he left him 25,000 dollars! After Mr. Cody’s unfortunate death gatsby tried to cash in on the money, but Mr. Cody’s mistress denied jay the money. At that moment Jay promised himself we would become wealthy(even if he had to fake it). As seen in on page 103/104 in chapter 6.Down the storyline jay meets a young woman daisy whom he falls head over heels for (right before he leaves for war). He lies and tells her , he is a man of wealth and a whole bunch of other tomfoolery. (But he is leaving to war, so he's gonna be gone before he has to prove it) They both fall in love with each other but part
