“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” The Great Gatsby. The characters in The Great Gatsby were trying to run away from their memories in the novel and movie. The characters were similar in both the book and movie, yet they were different.
One of the characters in The Great Gatsby was Daisy. Daisy was ruthless, money hungry, and self-centered. For an example, Daisy was “full of money” in the book and in the movie, The Great Gatsby. She didn’t care about anything else, but who had the money at the time and her reputation. Daisy knew that money cannot bring happiness but it can buy her the happiness she wanted. He was hopeless romantic for Daisy. He knew Daisy wanted to marry a rich man, because she was not afraid to admit her love and desire for nice material items. “Suddenly, with a strained sound, Daisy bent her head into the shirts and began to cry stormily. “They’re such beautiful shirts," she sobbed, her voice muffled in the think fold." page .118-119 in The Great Gatsby. Gatsby did everything in his power to become a rich man, even if it meant to do some of it illegally. This shows that Gatsby was a hard worker. He had the dream of becoming rich and worked towards that goal although, he had a rough beginning. Nick was had also the same personally which was just trying do everything morally right. In the book and movie, he was hurt and damaged after everything that happened in New York. You can see and feel that both in the book and movie, but I loved the way that emotion was portrayed in the movie because I was able to entirely see the damage and pain that was caused of the careless actions of the other characters. For example, in the movie, Daisy was still “full of money “but she did look more innocent than she was in the book. Daisy did not have the scene with her daughter to show how careless she was. At the end of the movie, you did see a part of how careless she was since she didn’t attend Gatsby funeral. At the same time, the actress playing that role had showed regret and remorse that, she didn’t attend the funeral. Gatsby was slightly different compared to the book. In the movie, I was able to see the love that Gatsby had for Daisy but I was not able to know exactly how he felt about her. In the movie, Tom was also different. He showed more compassion and less anger. For example, he didn’t beat up Myrtle or make the mean remarks which made him look less ruthless than he actually was. Another character that was different was Nick, he was more open in the book. In the movie, he was shy and none of the characters got to really know his character and morals. He doesn’t build the relationship with Jordan which, allowed me to see that he is open to letting some of the characters get to know him. Jordan was slightly different because she did not gossip as much in the movie because she was not as important as she was in the book. Although, she was not in most of the scenes, Jordan did have the features that described her in the book. She was athletic, tall, and had black hair.
Overall, the book and the movie had the same
