After World War 1 the economy was booming and people began to dream with a better way of living. Although many people were born in a wealthy family not everybody had that advantage. Wealth and high status motivated the middle class to work hard and achieve the dream. A new type of rich class was born, but to the eyes of the already established wealthy class, it was not considered genuine. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald suggests that the American Dream is not real, the people who pursue it are selfish, and this pursuit is ultimately a myth. The American Dream is basically a misunderstanding.
