The summer of 1922 brings strange events to the already strange life of Jay Gatsby. Nick Carraway moves to West Egg, and rents a house in Long Island. His next door neighbor, Jay Gatsby has a lavish mansion. Nick goes to meet with his cousin, Daisy Buchanan and her husband Tom for a meal. There, Nick meets to a woman named Jordan Baker and they begin a relationship. Jordan reveals to Nick that Tom is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, and is wife has no idea. Later in the summer Nick gets invited to one of Gatsby’s legendary parties and meets Gatsby himself. Gatsby is a very young man and he and Nick were in the same rank/division in the war. The only reason he throws the parties is to attempt to impress Daisy in hopes she will come back to him. Gatsby asks Nick to arrange a “date” between himself and Daisy. Nick invites Daisy to his house for tea but keeps her in the dark about his real intentions. When they first meet they show no immediate feelings toward each other but do end up reestablishing there love life which was foreshadowed by the constant talk of a prior relationship. At a lunch with Daisy and Gatsby, Tom realizes that they are in love. Tom explodes with anger and makes everyone go with him to New York to speak with Gatsby about the affair. Daisy realizes after that her loyalty lies with Tom, although Tom is not loyal to her. While Tom, Jordan and Nick are driving back to the egg they find Myrtle dead, hit by a car, Gatsby’s car. It turns out Daisy was driving the car at the time of the accident however Gatsby will take the blame if needed to protect Daisy. George, Myrtle’s husband has been suspecting she is having an affair and assumes that the owner of the car is the one she has been sleeping with. He finds that it is Gatsby, goes to his mansion and kills him, than kills
