Did you know that Babe Ruth also knew how to tailor clothing? If you didn’t, you do now. In this paper you will learn some things you may not have already known about Ruth such as: that he knew how to tailor clothes, why he started and stopped playing baseball, what his life was like outside of baseball, and finally some of the things he accomplished in his career as a professional baseball player. These are some of the reasons why Ruth is one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
What was his home life like? On February 6, 1895 a boy named George Herman Ruth, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Little did anyone know at the time that he would change the game of baseball forever. He was the oldest of 8 kids. Only he and one other sister made it to adulthood. Babe’s mom died when he was just 13 years old. His dad lived until his second year in the major leagues. On October 17, 1914, Babe Ruth married Helen Woodford, who was a waitress. He accomplished this by hard work, discipline, and talent. From 1928-1933 Ruth had a record of 270 home runs, he batted .341, and drove in 852 runs in just those 5 years alone. He held 54 major league records by the time of his death. Ruth had 714 overall home runs in his career, and a .342 lifetime batting average. He won 92 games, and lost only 44 games overall as a pitcher. In 1922, 1923, 1927, 1928, and 1932 he won the World Series as a Yankee. That is a total of 5 World Series championships with just one team alone. Ruth was so important to the Yankees that their stadium is nicknamed the “House that Ruth Built”. After he died on August 17, 1948 his body was placed in the main entrance of the Yankees stadium and over 100,000 fans came to pay their final respects to the great Babe
