1. It seems that the role of Western anthropologists and feminists in shaping narratives is to capitalize on the lack of equality between the sexes. In the book, The Guests of the Sheik, Elizabeth Warnock Fernea heavily discussed the gender-segregated society in the village of El Nahra. Fernea discussed the dominance of males through the dependence of women on them. Personally, I feel that focusing on the lack of power among women in the society can be problematic because it could create a bias towards them. In other words, since Fernea is a woman herself, she may feel strongly towards equality among the sexes and enhancing women rights.
