Nicholas Thompson’s The Hawk and the Dove stipulates a history on the Cold War as well as the arguments and approaches Paul Nitze and George Kennan create throughout this time period. Nitze and Kennan both were very prominent figures regarding the issues and solutions revolving around the Cold War. Nitze’s solution was to plan to win a nuclear war where Kennan’s was to “end its dependence on it,”(4) and preferred the strategy of containment. Although both figures had very different interpretations and resolutions to the Cold War, both men complemented each other.
