The Health belief model ( HBM) is used very often to determine the likelihood of performing preventive health practises. The four main components of the model are: Perceptions of susceptibility, severity, benefits and barriers. Perceived barriers is an important aspect used. Perceived barriers related to one's evaluation of how difficult an advised action will be or how much it will cost to the individual. The perceived barriers play a role on the effect of self- efficacy on binge drinking, smoking and physical activity. That being if these would help in times of stress of developing a higher self-efficacy. So the higher the perceived barriers, this will result in the students to engage in more negative behaviours.
