The helping relationship if powerful; it is the foundation for change and solving problems. Consequently, it is important for case manager aides to cultivate an awareness of the diverse population we serve. Issues of culture, race, class, sexuality, language, socioeconomic status and authority can create obstacles to effective communication and in achieving goals.

When I begin working with a person from a diverse community, I address issues related to socioeconomic differences, educational level and gender.
