(Intro→) The book “Friends With Boys” by Faith Erin Hicks is about a girl named Maggie who’s been homeschooled all her life and is entering the ninth grade at a public High School. The plot mainly revolves around Maggie and how she deals with the numerous challenges and new experiences life throws her way. Through usage of "The Hero's Journey" (a common archetype that most books and movies follow) main plot points, major problems, etc can be broken down into different sections. (Stages →) “Friends with Boys” is a relatively solid example of a hero’s journey narrative. Maggie faces a fair amount of structural points that are essential to a good hero’s journey novel.
