One of the most famous fairy tales that resonate with me from my childhood would have to be “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Jack was a young man who was raised by a single mother. Ironically jack’s mother struggles to provide for her son and was forced to sell the only thing she had left, a cow. She send young Jack to the market so that he could sell the cow, but instead he traded it for a bag of magic beans. His mother was furious, so she through the beans out the window right into the garden and that night like most single mothers struggling emotionally and financially to raise a man they both went to bed hungry. In my youth, I was a misguided young man, so in many ways Jack is a reflection of the young man I was growing up. Fairy tales are no different from superhero stories because the both tell the story of an individual who journey’s to find what is missing in psyche to make them complete. These heroes travel through numerous struggles in order to regain control of their individual consciousness. These struggles that the individuals face is known as the hero’s journey that help hem unlock their missing psyche. Grown up I never knew my father people would only tell me stories about what he was like and that he was a great provider. While my father is not dead he is not in his right state of mind. The relationship that we have is one that I can’t find words to describe but I do not hate him. While Jack did not have anyone in his life to seek guidance from the fairy came at a time when he need guidance the most. Base on the Webster dictionary the word guidance can be defined as an “advice or information aimed at resolving a problem or difficulty, especially as given by someone in authority”. The fairy gave jack information about an internal conflict regarding the disappearance of his father. In many ways the fairy gave jack a sense of guidance by helping him to meditate on the truth about the unknown of his father.
