The hero’s journey, discovered by Joseph Campbell, is an 11 step process in which essentially a hero enters a special world and conquers many trials. The tale of The Odyssey can be summarized as a journey of a man named Odysseus trying to travel home after a battle, he encounters many problems along the way. The character in which is being compared, L Lawliet comes from the anime/manga, Death Note. Death Note is about a high school student who obtains a magical notebook allowing him to kill anyone of who he writes the name in, as long as he knows their true name and face. He has a clear call to adventure, his longing to return home. He attains assistance from the men on his ship and Athena. He encounters many difficulties in his journey like Circe. L does not follow the formula as precisely as he can be viewed as an anti-hero being the main antagonist of the show but having good morals, mostly. L attains his call to action when the mass killings start to occur and he needs to find the killer, Kira, in order to apprehend him swiftly and stop the killings. He continues to follow the journey by receiving assistance from various sources, including Kira himself. Additionally, L encounters many trials and endeavors in his journey with many mental battles with Light/Kira. Lastly, he has his ultimate crisis, the moments before his death in which he realizes Light was Kira all
