People flee their country to get away from persecution and religious adversity. Although that journey is not easy by any means it is dangerous and long. In the book From There To Here The Immigrant Experience uses personal experiences to empathize with others.
In the story “Immigrant Kids” written by Russell Freedman the life of kids with different cultures is a struggle that can be a journey to adapt to. Between 1880 and 1920 23 million immigrants have entered this country by long ship rides and staying in harsh living conditions. Most of that 23 million have came through America’s busiest port at New York known as Ellis Island. Ellis Island is very difficult to get through they do thoro test on your health, ability to speak english, and your ethnicity. People are usually very flustered when they go through ellis island. As one can see that kids lives can be a hard struggle and that adapting to a new culture can be frightening.

Immigrants are very fearful due to the fact that they don't know whether or not they're going to a better place. Some are worried about the dangers of leaving their country and the consequences that they might have to face.
