Urban legends are known all over the world. Most of them are based on true stories while the rest are just myths that are used to scare people. Some of the myths teach important lessons and others just have some awkward reason not to doubt an urban legend. There’s always a story behind majority of the tales told from decades ago or most recent. Because no one knows the moral of the fables, there’s no way no one knows what they truly mean.
The urban myth I chose was The Hook, which is pretty interesting. Legend has it that a young couple were out in Lovers’ Lane when the radio announcer reported that a mass murderer escaped from an asylum and is very dangerous. No one really knows where The Hook came from but there are multiple explanations on where it started. Many people try to make guesses on where the strange Hook began. But in the movie series I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Hook originated in Southport, North Carolina. Most people agree with the movie on where the myth established.
The Hook is dated back to the 1950s. The way the myth is told is based on information from I Know What You Did Last Summer. The recent version is revised to make the story more chilling than it was initially told. The Hook wasn’t brought back up until 1997 when the film I Know What You Did Last Summer changed the whole story around. This urban legend has been told throughout the years and is still told today.
There are different versions about The Hook. In the I Know What You Did Last Summer series, the story of The Hook is four adolescents are driving down an empty highway when suddenly, they run over a fishermen and think he’s dead. Scared, they decided to throw his body in the river and swear they wouldn’t tell a soul about what had happened that night.
