The Hoover family adapted many of times throughout the film. The lack of change is what caused them to struggle the most. By adapting to multiple situations they were able to reconstruct themselves from being a dysfunctional family to a functional. Grandpapa passing away is a great example of adaptability for the Hoovers. At the time of grandpa death, the Hoovers had to come together for mourning purposes. Each member had to adapt together forcing connectedness in their family system. Adapting during this difficult time this shaped the Hoover family tremendously. As a group they were able to steal grandpa from the hospital something they could not do independently.

When the Hoover family came together they formed a family framework. A family system is created through their interaction patterns (Brommel, Bylund and Galvin 2012).
