In the story “The House of the Scorpion”, written by Nancy Farmer, the main characters are Matt, Celia, Maria, Tam Lin, and El Patron. The main setting is the Alacran Estate, which is based in the future near the mexican border, in an Opium based empire. In the beginning of the story, Matt doesn't know anyone except his caretaker Celia and has little to zero experience with people but her. The main problem in the story is Matt is a clone and in that time being a clone is considered filthy or unclean. In the time he is living clones are in the same rank and level of importance as livestock. Also a big problem is that he is the clone of an ungodly rich drug lord named El Patron whose family hates Matt. El Patron is 143 years old at the beginning …show more content…
He might start to date Maria because now replacing El Patron he may even try to marry her.I think that Matt will make a great leader because of what he was exposed to, and learned from all those years of eavesdropping on secret meetings about the empire. Also not having all those others around because of the explosion will make it easier with less roadblocks. I do think that it will be hard for Matt without Tam Lin to help him because her became like a father and adviser to Matt. However, I think that he will become closer to the other bodyguard Daft Donald. The book “House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer is a very interesting and exciting book. I think that the author may have directed this book to show that we are all equal, and that we all can be smart and talented no matter how we came into this world, or what our genetic codes say. I believe the author is trying to teach us to be accepting in a very different way by using clones instead of something like race or ethnicity.
