The Hunger Games is a novel written by Suzanne Collins. This is the first book of a 3 book series. The book is told in Katniss Everdeen’s point of view. The book starts out on the day of the reaping, a yearly event that takes place in each district right before the Hunger Games. There are 12 districts and Katniss is in District 12. From 12 to 18 years old your name gets entered once in the drawing for the Hunger Games. But you can add your name in exchange for a tessera, a years worth exchange for grains and oil for one person. Since not killing has been happening, the game makers start a fire by Katniss which makes her run towards all the other tributes. Katniss takes the bow and runs away but collapses because she got stung by a tracker jacker. Peeta saves her but ends up running into hiding. Rue helps with her stings with a remedy with leaves of a plant. Rue and Katniss end up becoming allies and go to destroy the Cornucopia where the other tributes are staying with all their food. As Rue distracts them, Katniss shoots at a bag of apples at the Cornucopia which sets off the land mines surrounding it; all their supplies and food end up getting destroyed. Katniss goes to find Rue, but realizes something is wrong. Rue had got captured by a boy from District 1. Katniss shoots the boy but she’s too late and the boy kills Rue. I think Suzanne Collins explained this thesis very well by showing that Katniss, since she lived in poverty and knew what it felt to starve, was the strongest out of most of them because the others didn't know really how to survive without food or in the woods. I like the fact the book is written in Katniss’ point of view. It gives you a really good idea of how she was feeling during certain times and exactly what she was thinking. If the book didn’t have her thoughts the book would have been boring and I think we would just be bored with it. The book also gave very good descriptions on the way some of the districts lived and how each one varied. Suzanne also described the way the different districts dressed. The Capitol wore very outgoing, weird, clothing and make up; where Katniss wore basic clothing and no make up at all. it really shows the different views of the districts. I think the book would be better if they showed more of the way the Capitol lived and what they did in their district though. I wish she would've have put more of Peeta and Katniss’ love story in there also. It didn't really sound convincing in the book on how the Capitol saw they were in love when she wrote not very convincing stuff in her book. I thought the whole time that there was no way the Capitol would fall for her being in love with them, but they
