Dorothea Dix made an impression on the world because she supported many individuals who were mentally ill. Dix wrote reports from other asylums and prisons she visited. With these reports she showed them to the government asking them to grant money to these asylums and prisons to improve their conditions. The government increased the budget to expand the State Mental Hospital at Worcester. Dix went to Europe and found many differences between the public hospitals and the private hospitals.
