The family reunification policy has had a significant impact on immigration throughout history. The policy has both positive and negative attributes, even though the goal of this policy is to grant visa to those who meet all the qualifications under the family reunification policy. The policy had a quota that limited which countries to enter the United States. A lot of the concerns that existed about immigration when the policy was first developed still exist. Even though new laws are being placed, for instance, the same sex marriage eligibility for a visa. There are still bias to who should be allowed to immigrate to the United States. There are two issues with the policy the first is with the income requirements linking to the number of people allowed to migrate together and the second within the system would be the backlog of applications to migrate to the United States. Overall, the family reunification policy might have some negative components but because a majority of new immigrants each year come through family reunification it is a major component to immigration and therefore serves a positive
