While following a leader, many people can be influenced. They do many things they would not normally do, but they do them because their leader, the person they look up to, does these things. That is what happened in the Odyssey. Many of the suitors were encouraged to act in an ill-manner. Antinous, the impolite leader of the suitors, almost brainwashed them to believe certain things.
