Being a child of immigrants has impacted me in the most intriguing ways possible. My parents' have faced a large amount of conflicts that has matured them to the parents that I needed to positively influence me. My parents have given me the values of hard work and responsibility and the understanding of poverty at a very young age. My parents haven’t been sheltering me from the world and has given me a space where I can experiment freely without judgement and where I can express myself. Before I was born, my father had a very well paying job that sustained my household for a large part of my childhood, but it prohibited me from actually having a relationship with my father. It was because my father had to have two jobs since my mother was a housewife in order to positively influence me and my siblings. I was determined to show my parents that their sacrifices has not been in vain and that I will do anything in my power through my sheer hard work and determination to pay them back with everything that they have done for my siblings and I. I wanted them to see the type of person that has matured from their teachings and their experiences, and I am that person today. Not only do I focus on my studies and constantly challenge myself with AP classes, but I have also extracurricular activities to improve my community. My parents have been proud of me for receiving awards from the city council for my dedication towards queer youth activism, when I organized the first queer youth summit in Santa cruz county, when I became an active speaker spreading my coming out story to many other schools across Santa Cruz county and my involvement local organizations to improve my community in ways that they have never
