Being an American Means Equality

Being an American means rights for women. Rights are a vital part of the American dream and because women in America have the right to vote, the right to an education, and the right to equal jobs this makes America a unique place. The right to vote is a crucial value to the country because it allows citizens to make decisions equally and not be controlled by the government. The right to an education is essential to people because it opens up opportunities that would never be present without an education. The right to an equal job is urgent because every person deserves an equal chance. In many countries these opportunities are only present for men. All these equalities are why being an American woman is important.

Since the first meeting of women at Seneca Falls in 1848 it has been a struggle to attain this right. It took 72 years of protests, marches and petitions for women to obtain their natural right, but by passing this amendment America became an improved place for everyone. In two countries, Saudi Arabia and Vatican City, women still do not have the right to vote. Although this seems to be a relatively minute number it should be considered that many countries only gave this right in the last twenty years. Even in countries where voting for women is legal the voter turnout for women is a tremendously low percentage. Because of social and cultural reasons, some women are too uncomfortable to vote. In America voter turnout for women is higher than men in most age categories, showing strength and bravery. Because voting is such a valuable principle women being able to vote makes America
