The brain is a complex necessity to life. It is known that it is an important component to human existence, because humans are created with a thick layer of protection surrounding the skull. However, sometimes, the brain can suffer traumatic injuries without damaging the skull. Concussions, diseases, disorders and tumors, are all types of injuries brains can undergo without damage to the skull. When an individual undergoes a concussion, memory loss, dizziness, loss of balance and many more symptoms will occur, due to the injuries done unto the brain. Football has had a history of players dealing with concussions, many lawsuits, court cases and even fatalities have been suffered from this injury. Concussions unfortunately are not the only form of injury, disorders such as dementia, blood clots, strokes and hematomas. Some symptoms to tell if you're experiencing any of those perviously listed are, vomiting, nausea, speech difficulty, bleeding from the ear, numbness or paralysis. Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer. Common symptoms after a concussion are headache, loss of memory and confusion. The amnesia, which may or may not follow a loss of consciousness, usually involves the loss of memory of the event that caused the concussion. Experts recommend that an athlete with a suspected concussion not return to play until he or she has been medically evaluated by a health care professional trained in evaluating and managing concussions. (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014) People continue to get treated for all types of these illnesses.
