A concussion is a blow to the head, causing the brain to shake inside the skull. Concussions are well known throughout the world and could be a life threating injury. Most sports players have a high risk of getting a concussion because of the amount of activity they do. Symptoms of a concussion can be dizziness, nausea, vomiting and balance problems. People who play sports such as American Football and Rugby have a higher chance of getting a concussion because of the tackling and aggressiveness in the game. Rowan Stringer, a 17-year old rugby player died from a life threating concussion after a rugby game in 2013. Before she died she suffered multiple hits to the head, this was why doctors believe she died. Because of this horrible incident, the Ontario government introduced “Rowan’s Law”, the law outlines protocols for concussions. Sports players are in the most risk for having a concussion because of the amount of physical activity they do. Compared to other countries, Canada has a huge variety of sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, football, badminton, tennis and so on. In the United States, players who play soccer under the age of 10 are banned from heading the ball because they don’t have the neck muscles to hit the ball. If a ball with enough momentum hits a player, there is a fair chance that they might have a concussion. This means the there is a higher risk of citizens in Canada getting a concussion. The concussion protocol could solve all these problems and help prevent and heal concussions. According to the protocol, if a player takes a blow to the head, they have to sit out of their game and go through a series tests to know if they have a concussion or not.
